Kitten Purchase Contract
This is the sales agreement between Kats Kits and you. Sign it below, and read the full terms underneath first. If any clause does not sit right with you, call Kat on (651) 463-4780 before you sign rather than after.
Complete and Sign
Fields marked with an asterisk are required. Your signed contract is emailed to Kat and stored against a reference number that you will be shown. The full terms are below.
The Terms
This agreement is between Kats Kits (Kat Doring, the breeder and seller) and the buyer named in the signed contract above.
Price, deposit and payment
- Price. The price of a pet kitten is $700.
- Deposit. A non-refundable deposit of $200 reserves a specific kitten, or a place for a kitten from a planned litter. The deposit is returned only if the breeder cancels the sale. There are no refunds on deposits.
- No exchanges. A deposit on one kitten cannot be moved to another kitten; that is a separate sale. The breeder may waive this in certain circumstances, at her discretion.
- Balance. The full price, a balance of $500 after the deposit, is payable in full before the kitten is released to the buyer.
- Keeping in touch. If, after paying the deposit, the buyer has no written or verbal contact with the breeder in the 30 days before the kitten is ready to go home (at 10 weeks of age) to arrange collection or delivery and the final payment, the breeder may make the kitten available again. No refund will be made once every effort to make contact has been exhausted.
- Right to refuse. The breeder reserves the right to refuse placement of any kitten at any time, before or after any deposit or payment has been made, with refunds made accordingly. This applies whether or not this contract has been signed, as it is published on this website as Kats Kits policy.
- Age and boarding. Kittens stay in the care of Kats Kits until at least 10 weeks of age. If a kitten has to stay longer than 16 weeks because of the buyer's circumstances, the breeder may charge a daily boarding fee.
Health guarantee
- Health at the time of sale. To the best of the breeder's knowledge, the kitten is in good health at the time of purchase, and it is FeLV and FIV negative at the time of sale. Testing carried out more than 72 hours after the buyer takes ownership will not be accepted.
- The 72-hour vet examination. The buyer must have the kitten examined by their own licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of purchase and tell the breeder of any adverse results. The basic health guarantee extends up to this time. If the examination is not done, this contract is void.
- If the kitten is found to be ill. If, on that examination, the kitten is believed to be ill, the breeder will accept the kitten back. The kitten will either be made well by the breeder and returned to the buyer, or replaced with a kitten of equal quality, at the breeder's choice.
- Veterinary costs. No veterinary bill is the responsibility of the breeder after purchase. Any medical action taken is the responsibility of the buyer.
- Vaccinations. The kitten has had its kitten vaccinations to date: feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia (FVRCP). Kittens are not given rabies vaccinations; these are the buyer's responsibility. Consult your veterinarian for future vaccinations.
Shipping and travel
- Travel costs. The buyer is responsible for all airline and transportation costs related to the sale at all times, including any return or replacement costs.
- Airline travel. If the kitten is sent by an airline, the seller is not liable for a kitten lost or stolen after acceptance by the airline carrier. It is the buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the airline if a shipment is lost, damaged or delayed, resulting in the death or sickness of the animal.
- Buyers outside the United States. Buyers in Canada, Australia or any other country are responsible for meeting that country's import requirements, and for their cost. See Canada and Australia.
Pet kittens, showing and registration
- Sold as a pet. This kitten is sold as a pet. The breeder provides an honest appraisal of the kitten's quality, but final adult quality cannot be guaranteed.
- Showing. Kittens sold as pets will not be shown in competition without the breeder's written permission.
- Spay or neuter. The kitten will be spayed or neutered before 9 months of age; the best time is between 7 and 9 months. On receipt of the veterinarian's confirmation of the altering, the breeder will provide breed registration papers if requested. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks.
Care of the kitten
- Indoors. The kitten is not to be allowed to run free outdoors. If it is ever allowed outside to run free, this contract is void.
- No declawing without approval. The kitten will not be declawed without the breeder's approval. Please talk to your veterinarian about alternatives. Declawing without approval voids this contract.
- Veterinary care. The kitten will be given necessary veterinary care, including an annual checkup and vaccinations.
- Love and attention. The buyer agrees to provide love and attention to the kitten.
- If the kitten dies. The breeder will be informed of the death of the kitten, under all circumstances, within 24 hours.
If you cannot keep the cat
- New home. If the buyer is unable to keep the cat, the breeder will help the buyer find a new home.
- Never to a shelter, store or laboratory. No kitten from this cattery may be sold or given to an animal shelter, loaned, sold or given to a pet store, abandoned, or sold or given to a laboratory.
Breach of contract
- Return of the kitten. For any breach of contract by the buyer, the buyer will return the kitten to the breeder at no cost to the breeder.
- Costs of enforcement. The buyer is liable for any court costs and related charges, including attorney's fees, associated with the breeder enforcing the terms of this contract. Any legal action arising under this contract will be in the county of the breeder's residence, at the buyer's expense.
- A binding agreement. Both parties consider this document legally binding. Deletions from or additions to this agreement are valid only if agreed by the breeder in writing.
A note from Kat: this contract was not made to intimidate anyone. It is here to protect the kittens, their safety and wellbeing, and to protect both of us. I love and care for every kitten I raise, and when they leave, a piece of my heart goes with them.
